What is the principal legislation under which the real estate sector operates in NSW?
The Property, Stock and Business Agents Act 2002 and Regulations 2003.
What do I need to obtain and hold a NSW Real Estate Licence?
The Office of Fair Trading specifies units of competency required to obtain a Licence to operate in the NSW real estate sector. For more details check the Qualifications Guidelines.
Am I able to apply for RPL/RCC?
You can apply for recognition for all topics but there are set requirements for eligibility. If you think you may be eligible for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or Recognition of Current Competencies (RCC) call us on 02 9891 4411 and we’ll be happy to help you figure it out.
How are the courses offered by Smart Academy undertaken?
You can do most of our courses by distance education or in seminar courses. In distance education we’ll send you paper-based manuals to complete and return to us for assessment.
How long will it take?
You have 12 months to complete the Licence course. If you haven't completed it in that time you may need to re-enrol or apply for an extension.
How am I assessed?
Assessment is continuous throughout each unit to reinforce your learning using competency based strategies. On completing a unit simply mail your assessment activities to us for review and you’ll receive a Statement of Academic Achievement after being assessed as ‘competent’.
Remember, you’re required to keep a record of your training for a period of 3 years. Naturally, Smart Academy will also keep a record of this.

How do I enrol?
It’s simple. Complete and fax an enrolment form to us at 02 9891 4655.
Do I need to keep a record of my training?
Yes! You should keep your original Statement of Attainment or other documentary evidence for your own records.
Are there exams?
No, all assessments are included in the unit activities. You complete these in your own time and return them to us for assessment.
What happens if I fail?
Assessment is competency based so you are deemed to be either competent (C) or not yet competent (NYC). If you are initially assessed as NYC, relax, you'll be given an opportunity to address the matters again with our support and assistance to ensure you understand the required outcomes.
Is Smart Academy certified by the OFT to deliver CPD training?
The OFT doesn’t actually certify CPD training providers but recognises them as providers in a list on their website.The NSW Vocational Education and Training Accreditation Board is the accrediting authority for training providers in NSW and Smart Academy offers training on behalf of Corum Training which is Registered Training Organisation registered to deliver training from the National Training Package PRD01 as required for the delivery of CPD training. Cprum Training’s RTO NTIS provider number is 91252.
What is your refund policy?
A refund will only be issued if:
- You have overpaid and have supporting documentation as proof.
- You withdraw from a program more than 7 days before commencement (a 20% administration fee may still be charged)
- No refund will be issued if:
- You've commenced a course that you're unable to complete.
- You've received the training material.
What are my payment options?
Payment is required before we can send you any training materials or seminar course commencement.
